'The Telephone' at The Hostry Festival in The Hostry, Norwich Cathedral

7.30pm

Ben loves Lucy or, should we call her, ‘Rockabilly Lucy’, with her total adoration of 1950s style? Will his gift soften her heart, and encourage her to accept his hand in marriage, or remove her from his arms forever?

Menotti’s ‘The Telephone’ or ‘L’amour à trois’ is a gem of operatic comedy, presenting an attempted marriage proposal alongside endless phone interruptions (how very modern!).

This marvelous, bijou opera is followed by a second half of music, featuring composers including Warlock, Barber and Roderick Williams, which traces the journey of myriad conversations and musings on that delightful tyrant, Love.

Featuring the award winning soprano Lisa Cassidy and the stunning baritone, Mark Saberton, this is an evening not to be missed.

LA VOIX HUMAINE/THE HUMAN VOICE by Francis Poulenc & Jean Cocteau

HOLT FESTIVAL 2018

In this rare opportunity to see a Jean Cocteau double bill, actress Tracey Catchpole and classical singer, Lisa Cassidy accompanied by William Fergusson join the Holt festival to star in two tour de force performances. The Human Voice is in the first half in English and in the second it returns to it’s original French as La Voix Humaine. The scenario of a woman’s phone call to her partner and a terrible life-changing event is the perfect platform for this compelling exploration of human frailty and love. These two works seen side by side offer a truly arresting and not to be missed experience.

POULENC'S GLORIA WITH THE EYE BACH CHOIR, SUFFOLK

On Saturday 10th March 2018 Eye Bach Choir will be singing two pieces in the canon of major 20th Century sacred works in Eye Parish Church. The first piece, Francis Poulenc’s Gloria was last sung by us in 2004. It is said that Vivaldi’s Gloria served as a model for Poulenc’s. The second piece will be Giacomo Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, given its first performance in 1951, which was last sung by us in 2001. Both of these pieces will benefit from the accompaniment by a symphonic orchestra and we are delighted that once again we will be accompanied by Kingfisher Sinfonietta.

Tickets can be purchased at Eye Pharmacy, and from our Ticket Manager by phoning 01379 871272 or by email at tickets@eyebachchoir.co.uk.

THE VOICE PROJECT- THE ARMS OF SLEEP

Travels in Light will be the final part of a trilogy of pieces about sleep, dreaming and waking (and especially the bits in between) from the Voice Project Choir. The inspiration for the concert came from a quote from the painter Paul Nash (whose work was recently exhibited at The Sainsbury Centre in Norwich) 'The divisions we may hold between the waking world and that of the dream are not there; they are porous; in a word, they are not there'.

The show will be a multi-venue performance piece in three locations on Norwich's medieval Princes Street and the churches with their different acoustic and atmospheric properties: St George's Tombland, St Peter Hungate and the United Reformed Church.

The show is a reflection on the time of the year: the sleep of winter: the dark nights, the short days but awakening with the promise of spring to come. The music has been specially written for the Voice Project Choir.

Tickets £12.50 / Conc. £10 / Children £5
